Obituary for Eleanora Brady
Eleanora (Ellie) Brady was born on December 16, 1921 in Augusta, Georgia to Robert and Annie Ruth (Thompkins) Thomas. The family moved to Harlem, New York when she was five years old. She attended PS 136 and Haaren High School and received a basketball scholarship to attend Alabama State College. She attended Morgan State College and finished her education at Columbia University where she received her Bachelor of Arts Degree and a Masters’ Degree in Early Childhood Education.

In 1950, she married the late Hunter (Jack) Brady. They resided in the Bronx for several years and later moved to Middletown, NY where she lived for over sixty years.

Eleanora worked as a teacher at the Forest Houses Day Care Center in the Bronx and later became the Director of the Mt. Morris Park Day Care Center in Harlem, New York. She then accepted a position with the New York City Board of Education where she taught first grade and pre-kindergarten in the Bronx until she retired.

She was extremely creative and enjoyed sewing, crocheting, knitting and collecting recipes. She was an excellent cook and was known for her tasty desserts. She loved to entertain and was a great hostess. She also loved to dance and did a surprise interpretive dance at her wedding reception. She taught line dancing at a local senior center in Middletown, New York.
She and her husband Jack had a passion for traveling. Some of their journeys took them to Africa, Germany, France, England, Holland, Mexico, Russia, and parts of South America.
Eleanora could often be heard at Elmcroft of Florence Assisted Living Facility, singing spiritual songs. She was always friendly with a warm smile and a twinkle in her eyes, which drew many friends to her. She loved her family and her family loved her. She will be greatly missed.

She departed this life on March 15, 2021 at the age of 99 years old. She was predeceased by her sister’s Juanita (Weedie) Kitchings, Elizabeth (Liz) Thomas and niece Patricia Taylor.
She leaves to cherish her precious memory, brother Robert (Brother) Thomas, nieces Brenda Kitchings, Symra (Turhan) Brandon, Sandra (Michael) Jones , Cheryl Demmitt, Virginia (Drew)Atkins, Tonia Taylor, Cathy Taylor, nephew Robert Pridgen and a host of grand and great grand nieces and nephews and extended family and friends.
