Eleanor Mildred Watkins of Middletown, NY, died on Saturday September 29 at St. Teresa's Nursing Home Middletown, NY surrounded by her devoted family. She was 92.
The daughter of the late Frederick and the late Olga Schauer Woerner. She was born on February 14, 1920 in Middletown, NY.
With her husband, she ran Misty Meadow Farm in the Town of Wallkill for over 20 years. Eleanor married Herbert “Joe” Watkins in March of 1937 in Middletown and they shared 69 years of marriage until his death in 2007.
Eleanor described herself as the Matriarch of the family. She was friendly, caring and loving-a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Until her retirement, she worked as Catalog Department Manager at Sears and Roebuck. She was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Middletown and loved ballroom dancing at the Middletown Elks Club with Joe.
She is survived by her three daughters; Patricia McQueen of Bloomingburg, Barbara Sleight and her husband Russell of Horse Heads, NY and JoAnn Talmadge and her husband John of Dunedin, Florida; one brother, Frederick Woerner of Indiana; nine grandchildren, Brian, Jeffrey, James, Jr., Keith, Lisa, Russell, John, Jennifer and Jill and 19 great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband Herbert “Joe”, she was predeceased by her two sisters, Marion Stenrud and Jean Ciarimboli.
Visitation hours will be from 2 to 3:30 pm on Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc. A Funeral Service will be held at 3 pm on Wed. at the funeral home. Following cremation, entombment will be private in the Mother Queen of Peace Mausoleum at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Middletown.
