Middletown, New York
Eleanor Elder, a long-time resident of Middletown, New York, passed away on November 14, 2018 at Promenade in Middletown, New York. She was born in Sussex, New Jersey on October 17, 1925. She was the daughter of the late Alexander and Mary Kowalczyk. Eleanor married Kenneth Elder on April 20, 1947 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Pine Island, New York. She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church where she was a past Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist. Eleanor was also a Third Order Member of the Edith Stein Chapter of Lay Carmelites which met at The National Shrine of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Middletown, New York.
Eleanor is survived by her husband of 70 years, Kenneth Elder, one son David and his wife Cherrie of Guymon, Oklahoma, two grandchildren; Christopher Elder of Hydro, Oklahoma and Bridget Elder Thomas and her husband Robert Thomas of Flemington, Georgia, four great grandchildren; Keista Elder and Robbie Thomas of Vine Grove, Kentucky, Maeme and Christopher Dodge Elder of Hydro, Oklahoma, one brother; Leo Kowalczyk of Johnson, New York, sister-in-law Shirley Flynn of Slate Hill, New York and many nieces and nephews.
Eleanor was predeceased by her parents, Alexander and Mary Kowalczyk, brothers; John, Alex, Zigmond, sisters; Jean, Martha and Lottie.
Visitation will be held at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, New York on Sunday, November 18 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Monday, November 19 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 90 Euclid Avenue, Middletown, New York at 10 A.M. Burial will follow in the family plot at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, 149 Cottage Street, Middletown, New York.
In Lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 90 Euclid Avenue, Middletown, New York.
Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to Applebee-Mc Phillips Funeral Home, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, New York.
