Elaine Sheets
08/30/1947-12/18/20
Middletown, NY
Elaine Sheets, a lifetime resident of the area and a retired educator, died after a short illness on Friday December 18, at Garnet Health Center. She was 73 years old.
The only child of Lewis and Anna Vreeland Elder, she was born in Sussex, NJ on August 30th, 1947. Elaine grew up in Unionville and loved the small hamlet where everyone knew their neighbors. While she had no siblings, Elaine treasured her many friends throughout her whole life. She married Lawrence Sheets on June 28th, 1969, and together they raised four children. Her children remember her abilities that made their growing up together so special…she could converse with the animals and gave them names and personalities; she was an awesome cook, loved entertaining, and opening her home to lots of kids and friends, best of all she loved all 4 children and 5 grandchildren unconditionally, and eternally.
Elaine worked for over twenty years at the Hilltop Daycare Center where she loved caring for the children and appreciated her coworkers at the facility. She was spiritual and devout, worshipping at Harmony Baptist Church, and lived by the Golden Rule, always looking out for others.
Elaine is survived by her loving children, Lawrence, Michael (Kara), Andrew (Rachel), and Jeanette (Thomas) of Milford, PA, and five cherished grandchildren; Brianna, Tristan, Liam, Madison, and Brayden, as well as her former husband, and father of her children, Lawrence, and important part of their family team.
Elaine felt blessed to call Sue Rosen, Naomi Pacione, and the late Kathy Ward friends, even though they felt more like sisters to her.
Visitation will take place at her church, Harmony Baptist Church, 1790 Rt. NY-211, Middletown NY, 10941 on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 from 10-11 am with a Funeral Service of Remembrance at 11 am, celebrated by the Rev. John Hawco. Following the service, burial will take place in the family plot at Clove Cemetery, Sussex, NJ.
Donations in her name may be made to Harmony Christian Food Pantry, where Elaine would appreciate our support of families in need.
