Elaine Deborah Binns, age 76, entered into rest peacefully, at her home
in Middletown, New York, on January 14, 2024. Elaine was born on
May 20, 1947 in Haddington Hanover, Jamaica, WI to the late Hilda and
Albert Strachan. Elaine was the eldest of ten siblings.
Elaine migrated from Jamaica to Brooklyn, NY in 1979. She came to the
United States leaving her family behind, to seek employment and
educational opportunities in order to provide a better future for her
family. She became acquainted with a loving couple, who made her a
part of their own family. Shortly after, she decided to relocate to
Middletown, NY which then became her permanent residence. With
their guidance, her eagerness to work hard and her dedication to her
family, she was able to accomplish all her goals she had set prior to
leaving Jamaica. Elaine underwent the naturalization process and
became a U.S. Citizen. She attended and graduated from the Middletown
Beauty School in 1988 and was a licensed Cosmetologist. In addition
she completed the Nursing Assistant course in which she then became an
employee for Orange County Home & Infirmary, now known as Valley
View Center, in Goshen, NY. After many years of employment for the
county she was able to retire at an early age.
Elaine thrived as she lived out her God-given role. She enjoyed working
with people from all walks of life and had a true passion for serving
others. She delivered meals to seniors for Meals on Wheels and
volunteered at Mulberry House Senior Center. She was an active
member of the church. She loved to worship as part of the church choir
and being a choir member allowed her to embrace her love for music.
She faithfully participated in church functions and even started attending
the Community Bible Institute until she started to develop early signs of
Alzheimer's disease.
She lived a creative life, sewed beautiful clothing, enjoyed crafting,
knitting/crocheting, decorating and baking. Traveling was her favorite.
She hosted numerous dinner gatherings at her home as time with family
was very important to her. She was the life of the party and the spark
that ignited happiness. With her infectious smile and laughter, she
turned ordinary moments into extraordinary ones. She will be greatly
missed. She certainly was a beacon of joy and the woven fabric in other
peoples lives. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who
knew her. She was a woman full of love that shared her love with many.
Her love, strength and courage is definitely an inspiration to all.
She is survived by her husband Talbert Binns, two daughters Diana
Binns and Stacey Binns, her grandson Nasier Brown, her closest aunt
Mirribel Hutton, who has always been by her side, her sisters Beverly
Green, Hyacinth Reeves, Jennifer Maxwell, Fay Strachan and Pauline
Strachan. Her brothers Llyod, Anthony, Neville & Norris Strachan,
sister in law Paula Blair, who was more like her own daughter, nieces,
nephews, cousins, and a host of many other loving relatives. She was
truly blessed with the multitude of family and friends she had during her
lifetime.
