Eileen Spina
April 21, 1960 – November 20, 2021
Slate Hill, NY
Eileen passed away in her home surrounded by her family on the morning of Saturday, November 20, 2021, at the age of 61.
Eileen loved her family and friends deeply, and people could always count on her to lend a listening ear and sage advice. She enjoyed nature, and she could often be found sitting by the fire pit, tending to her garden with Briana, walking on local trails with her daughters and friends, or observing the beauty of her backyard. One of her favorite traditions is the annual Jemison camping trip at Jerry’s, where she loved to provide silly string and glow sticks to the kids, and to not paddle on the rafting trip. Eileen also liked cats, bowling, shoes, the color yellow, and a good hamburger.
Eileen’s role as a mother is of the utmost importance to her and her daughters. She served as a Girl Scout troop leader for many years and was an active volunteer with the swimming and diving club team at Minisink Valley. She came to all of Briana’s soccer games and musical productions, and all of Vanessa’s swim meets and cheerleading events. She came to awards ceremonies, extra-curricular club inductions, academic conferences… everything. She raised her daughters to be independent, caring individuals, just like her. She always reminded her daughters that her love is unconditional.
Eileen was the general manager of the food service program at the K-12 Ellenville School District, and she took pride in serving meals to hundreds of students in need daily. She stepped up to the challenge of serving meals while school was shut down during the COVID-19 pandemic, and with the help of her staff, she sent meal deliveries to each family in the district, and then some.
She is survived by her daughters, Briana and Vanessa; her husband, Joseph; her sisters, Lorraine, Cathy, Chrissy, and Maureen; many nieces and nephews; and the family’s cats, Bella, Skittles, and Sylvia.
The wake will be on Sunday, November 28, 2021, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Applebee McPhillips Funeral Home: 130 Highland Ave., Middletown, NY 10940. There will be a funeral mass on Monday, November 29, 2021, at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church: 90 Euclid Ave., Middletown, NY 10940. Immediately following the mass, the burial will be at Wallkill Cemetery: 160 Midway Rd., Middletown, NY 10940. Donations can be made in Eileen’s honor to the Guild of Saint Margaret Soup Kitchen in Middletown, NY, March of Dimes, or Ronald McDonald House Charities.
