Eileen Marie Black, longtime resident of Scotchtown, NY, passed away December 20, 2013 at home from a difficult and long battle with cancer at 70 years of age.
Eileen was born in Rockaway Beach, Queens, NY, May 14, 1943, the daughter of William and Kathleen Mann. Eileen graduated James Madison High School and began her first job in banking at Irving Trust Company.
Upon marrying the love of her life, Tom Black and beginning their family, being a wife and mother were her top priorities. As the family relocated from Brooklyn, NY to Scotchtown, NY she became actively involved in Pine Bush schools in various aquatic programs as swimming was a real joy in her life. She was a highly regarded and dedicated coach for both the boys and girls varsity swim teams for over 25 years. Eileen enjoyed her life immensely spending time with her family and friends, but most especially she loved every moment being the ever proud and loving grandmother.
She is survived by Tom Black, her husband of 48 years and daughters: Debbie Black of Scotchtown, NY, Christine Black Costello and husband, Tom Costello of Wilton, CT, Jennifer Black Muller and husband, Brian Muller of Garrison, NY and her eight grandchildren: Thomas, Cassidy, Halley and Jack Costello and Colin, Brigid, Molly and Liam Muller. She will also be missed by a large family of brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and close friends.
A wake will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, December 22nd at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday, December 23rd at Holy Cross R.C. Church in So. Centerville. Burial will follow in Orange County Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Goshen, NY.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, NY 12550.
