Obituary for Edward Joseph Woods

Edward Woods was born January 17, 1950 to Francis and Catherine Woods. The oldest of 5 children. He grew up in the South Bronx, in the Parish of St. Jerome with sisters Peggy, Kathleen, Mary, and brother Frank.

In 1969 he received a token from the United States Army. He decided instead to enlist in the U.S. Marine Corps, Semper Fi (Oorah). During his tour of duty in Vietnam, Lance Corporal Edward Woods was wounded by friendly fire and was honorably

discharged in 1970. He returned home to the Bronx where he continued to be active in the Parish. In 1980 he married the love of his life, Delia Collado. In May 1988 he was ordained as a deacon at a ceremony held at St. Patrick's Cathedral, in the

presence of his parishioners of Mt. Carmel, friends, and family. Deacon Edward Woods spent the rest of his life in service to his ministry acting as a Chaplain for various local nursing homes.

When not pursuing his ministries within the church and community, he was a devoted father to his three children, Carolyn (Carrie), Kenny, and Jason. He was a doting Grandfather to his four grandchildren, Harrison, Tyler, Penelope, and Gabrael. He treated his son-in-law Kevin and his two daughter-in-laws Jenn and Linda like they were his own blood. This was also true of his three brother-in-laws, John Noble, Joe Pagano, and Joe Mandara.

Ed dedicated a life of service to his God, to his Country, and to his Family. In honor of this calling which he loved, we would welcome his family and friends to send any gifts or donations to The Wounded Warriors Foundation or to your local Vietnam Veterans organization, in his name.
