Edith Beth McLean, a long time resident of Montgomery, died on Monday, November 25, 2013 at home surrounded by her loving family following a long illness. She was 75.
The daughter of the late Lucille P. and Alfred H. Ladmer, she was born on June 10, 1938 in New York City. Edith married Frank McLean on February 1, 1957 on Long Island. She owned and operated McLean’s Real Estate.
Edith was a caring, motivated and civically minded woman. She was very active in the Valley Central School District where she was instrumental in setting up the Antique and Art Show as well as the Scholarship Fund. Edith was the first president and a longtime member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Bullville Fire Co. and later became one of the first and few female members of the Bullville Fire Co. She was very talented and lent her expertise as a secretary and financial secretary for the fire company. She volunteered for the Red Cross Disaster Relief setting up shelters after local fires and floods.
Edith is survived by her husband, Frank; son, David and his wife, Charlene; daughters, Kathryn Valentin and her husband, Peter and Lisa McLean all of Middletown; one brother, Bill Ladmer and his wife, Helen of South Carolina; and a sister, Susan Ladmer of New Hampshire. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, Patrick, Emily, Rebekka, Maya, Kyle, and Krystal as well as several nieces and nephews and numerous cousins.
Visitation hours are from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, November 29, 2013 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 30, 2013 at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the family plot in Brick Church Cemetery, Rt. 17K, Montgomery, NY.
The family would like to express their appreciation for the loving care given by Edi’s granddaughter, Krystal, the Bullville Ladies Auxiliary as well as Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties.
