Dylan Jewis, a senior at Pine Bush High School, died unexpectedly on Thursday, October 28, 2010 at St. Luke's Hospital in Newburgh, NY. He was 17.
The son of Mark Jewis and Tina Smith Melendez, he was born on February 3, 1993 in Valhalla.
Dylan will be remembered for his big smile that would light up a room; lots of patience and for having a great sense of humor. He was mechanically inclined; loved old cars; video games; computers, heavy music; and had a huge love for all animals. He loved spending time with his big brother Mark and many friends and family. He was also excited to start driving and get his first tattoo. Dylan will be forever in our hearts. We love and miss him dearly.
He is survived by his parents, Mark Jewis of Pine Bush and Tina Smith-Melendez and her husband Oscar of Middletown; brother Mark Jewis and sister Crystal Smith; his paternal grandmother Janet Jewis; maternal grandparents, Jean and Charles Dowdy and Michael and Michelle Smith; great grandparents, Evelyn Godfrey and Ethel Smith; Aunts Lisa Godfrey-Gray, Cheyanne and Michaela Smith and Tara Cammer; Uncles Jeffrey Jewis and Michael Smith; many more Aunts, Uncles and many close cousins; so many friends and his best friend Benny, the family dog.
Visitation hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm on Monday, November 1, 2010 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY. A Funeral Service in Remembrance will be held at 11:30 am on Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at First Congregational Church, 35 East Main Street, Middletown, NY. Pastor Steve Offringa will officiate. Cremation will be private.
