Obituary for Dr. Nambi Salgunan
Dr. Nambi Salgunan, 79, of Middletown, NY passed away peacefully at his home on December 12, 2022 surrounded by family.
Dr. Salgunan was born on July 26, 1943 in Kerala, India to Leelavathy and Nambi Reddiar. He lived in India until 1970 when he moved to Taunton, Massachusetts with his wife to study psychiatry. They later moved to Middletown, NY in 1973 where they have lived for 49 years among a close community of friends. Dr. Salgunan practiced psychiatry for over 50 years spending most of his career working throughout Orange and Sullivan County. He started his career at the Middletown Psychiatric Center. He later worked at numerous facilities including Garnett Health Medical Center (Arden Hill, Horton, Orange Regional
Medical Center), Mid-Hudson Forensic Psychiatric Center, New Hope Community, Inc, Catholic Charities, Bon Secours Community Hospital, and Sullivan County Mental Health Clinic. He was a dedicated physician and cared deeply for his patients. He found immense joy in his work and loved practicing medicine.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Salgunan enjoyed old movies, classical Indian music, traveling, good coffee and spending time with his family. He was fiercely loyal, and a generous friend and colleague to many. Dr. Salgunan is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Mallika Salgunan of Middletown, NY; his sons Arun and Biju Salgunan of Middletown, NY, his daughter, Reka Salgunan of Ardsley, NY, his son-in-law, Shawn Lemerise of Ardsley, NY, his grandchildren Kiran and Karthik Lemerise and his brother Kumaresan Nambi of Kerala, India. He is pre-deceased by four sisters and 2 brothers of Kerala, India
Visitation will take place on Thursday, December 15th from 4-7pm at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY.
A service will take place at the funeral home on Friday, December 16th at 10am.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Salvation Army or Hospice of Orange and Sullivan.
