Obituary for Dorothy Wellesley
Dorothy Wellesley (Grandma Dottie), a resident of Middletown, NY for over 60 years, went to be with Jesus, Thursday, May 14, 2020. She was 97 year’s old.

The daughter of the late Emma Gordon and Frederick Walker, she was born November 26, 1922 in the West Indies. She was predeceased by her husband Reginald Walker and one son. She had another son named Rudolph Walker.

She spent her working years cleaning in private homes and hotels. And she is most proud of serving as a volunteer at Orange Regional Medical Center (aka Horton Hospital), where she brought hope and laughter to those waiting to hear about their loved ones after surgery.

Grandma Dottie was a long-standing member of Family Church (aka Christian Faith Fellowship) in Middletown where she served in the hospitality department, for many years. She LOVED her church and told anyone that would listen about her church family. She found a large extended family there that included Fred & MJ Long of North Carolina, Kathryn & Bryant Vasquez of Spring Hill, TN and her beloved Pastor Joe McKelvey of Wurtsboro, NY.

She was definitely one-of-a-kind! She loved people and people loved her. And she would stop at nothing to make someone laugh (and blush) …. that was her true calling and she took it seriously!

She lived her life by this quote: We don’t stop laughing because we grow old, we grow old because we stop laughing.

Grandma Dottie’s adopted family would like to thank the staff of Park Manor Rehabilitation, the Promenade of Middletown (especially Allyssa from Adult Day Care), Crystal Run Healthcare and Orange Regional Medical Center for the excellent care she received throughout the last 20 years. Thank you to all who visited and cared for her from Family Church (especially Patty, Vickie & Ceci) and 2nd Baptist Church in Middletown (especially Rev. Nole).

A Celebration of Life will be scheduled later this year.

In lieu of gifts and flowers, Grandma Dottie would be honored if you found a way to laugh, love and give to someone in need today!
