Obituary for Dorothy B. VanDermark
Dorothy B. VanDermark, a lifetime area resident, died on Thursday August 31 at O.R.M.C. Horton Campus Middletown.  She was 87. The daughter of the late Benjamin J. and Leola Dillistin Sayer, she was born on June 6, 1919 in Fairfield, NJ.       Dorothy was the wife of  Richard D. Vandermark, who predeceased her on July 2, 2004. She worked as a cook for Pilgrim Grammar School in Middletown. A family statement reads: “ She was a good wife and mother. She loved to sew and iron and was a gifted seamstress.” She is survived by her two sons, Richard C. VanDermark and his wife Donna of Middletown, and David VanDermark and his wife Lorretta of Godeffroy, and one daughter, Shari Wells of Highland; five grandchildren, Robby Affuso, Alan Affuso, Gina Pratti, Ricky VanDermark, and Shari Utter; 8 great-grandchildren, and  many nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to her husband, she predeceased by three sisters, Ruth Fairiers, Thelma Clapper, and Jane Sipos. Friends and family may call on Sunday, September 3, 2006 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A funeral service will be held at 8 pm on Sunday evening at the funeral home, Deacon Richard Tripani will officiate.Cremation  will take place at Cedar Hill Crematory in  Middlehope, NY. Memorial contributions in Dorothy’s name may be made to the United Cerebal Palsy Association, 1660 L Street NW, Suite 700, Washington, D.C. 20036 or the American Heart Assoc., 419 East Main Street, Middletown, NY 10940.
