Obituary for Doris June Kania
Doris June Kania passed away with family by her side on Friday, May 14, 2021 at Garnet Health Medical Center in Middletown, NY. She was 90 years old.
The daughter of the late George P. and Florence Davis Baack, she was born on June 13, 1930, in Jamaica, Queens.
Doris married the love of her life, Martin J. Kania, on April 17, 1949. Sharing 68 years together, they lived their married life modeling the virtues of kindness, generosity, love, and respect.
Doris was a dedicated and caring Teaching Assistant who was employed by the Middletown School District for 42 years. Her entire time spent working was at Truman Moon School where she loved the students and people she worked with. She was so rewarded by her career that she didn’t retire until she was 80 years old!
Doris was feisty and fun. She loved to dress up in costume for Halloween and school events. Always thinking of others first, she was the “Spirit of our Family”. She wasn’t afraid to say what she thought. Her smile lit up the room. She loved feeding and watching the birds, having flowers in her garden and her home and tending to her two cats. She really enjoyed bowling on the Women’s “Faculty & Friends” League in Middletown.
She lived for her daughters and loved her sons-in-law as if they were her own. She was a mother to many.
She is survived by her daughters: Elaine V. Heinsman and husband Doug, of Port Jervis, NY and Carol A. Cohen and husband, Sam of Hurricane, Utah. She is also survived by her sister, Joan VanCuren of Middletown, NY; sister-In-law, Helen Beninson of Bullville, NY; brothers-in-law: Tony Kania and his wife, Ann of Bayshore, NY and Ruppert (Bud) Rieder of Kernersville, N.C., as well as many nieces and nephews.

Baack; sisters-in-law: Rose Rieder, Eugenia Kania and Virginia Kania; brothers-in-law: Stanley, Joseph, Julius, Frank, David (D.J.) Beninson, Harry Sturgis, and Charles Van Curen.
