Obituary for Donna M. VanDermark
Donna M. Howarth VanDermark passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home in Myrtle Beach, S.C. with her husband of 58 years, Richard "Ducky" VanDermark, by her side on December 29, 2023.
Donna was born August 9,1946 in Middletown, NY, and it was there that she met and married the love of her life, Ducky, on March 12, 1966. Donna and Ducky were inseparable, and their home was always open to friends and family. When they both retired and moved to Myrtle Beach, S.C. 15 years ago, they continued to welcome new friends into their lives, and Donna will be missed by many who loved her like family.
Donna worked at Horton Memorial Hospital as well as Frontier Insurance Company, but she was proudest of being an administrative assistant for a vice president of American Airlines out of Stewart Airport. Donna was a member of the Women’s Professional Club in Middletown, N.Y. (BPW) Donna enjoyed traveling, scrapbooking, creating homemade greeting cards, and a passion for shopping, alongside her best friend of 38 years, Toni Ailinger, who passed away in March. Most importantly, Donna cherished every minute she had with her grandchildren and was always proud of their accomplishments whether big or small. Donna also loved her dog, Bella.
She is survived by her husband, Richard C. VanDermark; her son Richard H. VanDermark and his wife Jennifer of Myrtle Beach, SC, her daughter Gina Pratti, husband Christopher Pratti of Middletown, NY, her brother Michael Howarth and his wife Marion of Myrtle Beach, SC, her three beloved grandchildren, Anthony Pratti, Haelie VanDermark and Adriana Pratti, and two great grandchildren, Liam and Aaliyah, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Donna was predeceased by her parents, Harold and Lois DeGroat Howarth, and her brother Jeffrey Howarth.
Visitation will be held on Monday, January 8, 2024 from 4-7pm at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home at 130 Highland Avenue Middletown, NY. Graveside services will take place on Tuesday, January 9, 2024 at 10:00 am in Wallkill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to cerebral palsy and/or autism foundations in honor of Donna's grandson and granddaughter.
