Donald J. “D.J.” Johnson, a lifetime area resident, died unexpectedly on Monday, September 17, 2012 at home. He was 65.
The son of Anna Harchut Johnson and the late Robert L. Johnson, he was born on December 21, 1946 in Goshen. D.J. proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He married Adele Kwiatkowski on September 8, 1973. D.J. worked for Goshen D.P.W. until his recent retirement. He was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Middletown.
In addition to his loving wife Adele of 39 years at home, he is survived by his mother, Anna, son, Matthew and his wife, Liza of California; granddaughter, Brooke Johnson; brother, Edward F. Johnson of California, niece Susan Johnson and nephew Michael Johnson of Bullville and great nephew Kyle Curesky, Uncle Casper Harchut and Aunt Cairine Harchut. He was predeceased by his father, Robert, brother Robert, sister-in-law Joan Johnson and Uncle, John Harchut.
Visitation hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm on Friday, September 21, 2012 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 am on Saturday, September 22 at St. Joseph's Church, 149 Cottage Street, Middletown, NY 10940. Following cremation, burial with Military honors will take place on Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at 11 am in Orange County Veterans Cemetery in Goshen, all are invited to attend.
