Donald C. Â Â Dalton
Donald C. Dalton, an 8 year resident of Middletown, died on Friday June 26 at ORMC Horton Campus in Middletown after a long illness. He was 86.
The son of the late James Dalton and Anna Henry, Donald was born in New York, N.Y. on November 4, 1922. He married his loving wife Veronica on August 5, 1944, and they lived together in New York, NY. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Medical Detachment, 346th Infantry from 1943-45 as a Tech 5. Donald and Veronica moved to Belrose, Queens in 1955. He was a President of the Holy name Society of Our Lady of the Snows Church in Floral Park, NY from 1977-78.
In 1982, after his retirement from the NYC Dept. of Sanitation where he served as a foreman for over 34 years,  Donald and Veronica moved to Granville, NY. In Granville, Donald was a Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus Council #343, and was a member of St. Mary’s Church. Following Veronica’s death in 2001, Donald relocated to the Middletown area and became a parishioner at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. He was a quiet man but had a great sense of humor. During his active years in life, he enjoyed bowling and  fishing. He was an avid Yankee fan. Dad will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his daughter, Nancy Flowers of Queens, and his daughter Joan Janssen and her husband Bill of Middletown, grandson James Gatta and his wife Andrea and his two great-grandchildren, Jack and Caroline as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife Veronica, he was predeceased his eight brothers and sisters ( Mary, Florence, Henry, Raymond, Peter, Gertrude, John, and James).
Visitation hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm on Monday, June 29, 2009 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY, 10940. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 am on Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 90 Euclid Avenue, Middletown, NY, 10940. Burial will take place on Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at 12:15 pm in the family plot in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Granville, NY.
Memorial contributions in Donald’s name may be made to either the American Heart Assoc., 419 East Main Street, Middletown, NY, 10940, the American Lung Assoc. or the Diabetes Foundation.
