DONALD CYRIL YONSKIE
May 1, 1927 - December 3, 2018
Mount Hope, NY
Donald Yonskie, of Mt. Hope, NY died peacefully on December 3, 2018.
He was a graduate of Spring Valley New York High School, NYU School of Small Home Design, and graduated from Orange County Community College in Middletown, NY with an associate degree in Electrical Communications.
A man of honor and civic duty, he was a United States World War II Veteran serving in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific Theatre aboard the destroyers U.S.S. Waldron and U.S.S. Charles S. Sperry. After he became an Electrical Engineer with Lederle/Wyeth/Pfzier for 48 years before retiring in 1991.
Along with his great love of family, he enjoyed being part of the community and his church. He was Past President of the Otisville Lion’s Club, Past President of the Mt. Hope Republican Club, Past Commander of American Legion Post 1079 and also started the Otisville Country Fair Ice Cream Booth, Past Chairman of the Mt. Hope Planning Board, Past member of the K of C John Cardinal McClosky Council of New City, NY, Past Chaplin and member of Bingo and Pancake Breakfast Committee of the Elks 1097, Middletown, NY, Member of LERA Travel Club, Past Village of Otisville Justice, member and past secretary/treasurer of the Mount Hope Seniors, Past secretary/treasurer of the Mount Hope Historical Society, and Past long-time Usher, Head Lector, Eucharistic Minister, Past Chairman of Liturgy committee, past Trustee, and Past Member of Finance Chairman of Holy Name of Jesus Roman Catholic Church in Otisville, NY.
When not busy with his community, he enjoyed gardening, woodworking and landscaping with his wife on their 1836 home in Mount Hope, NY. In his younger years, he was an avid skier, tennis player and was known to be a real smooth dancer.
Donald will be sadly missed by his family, his church and the community. He lent dignity and character to everything he undertook. He is survived by his wife, Doris Lindemann Yonskie of 64 years; sons: Raymond Yonskie Sr. of Palmyra, NJ, Thomas Yonskie and his wife, Alice of Mount Hope; his grandchildren: Virginia Hewitt and her husband, James, Corey Baker, Donald Scott Smith, Stacie Schultz, Robert Yonskie and his wife, Stephanie and Raymond Yonskie Jr. and his fiancee, Christina; his great grandchildren: John, Seamus, Jacob, Jared, Alice, Raymond III, and Henric; his sister-in-law: Rita Yonskie of New City and nephew, Mark Yonskie of Valley Cottage, NY.
Donald Is pre-deceased by his parents, Elsie and Michael Yonskie Sr.; brother, Michael Jr., and daughter, Deborah Yonskie Baker.
Memorial Mass will be held following Cremation at Holy Name of Jesus Church, Highland Avenue, Otisville, NY on Friday, December 7, 2018 at 1:30 p.m., followed by a graveside service with Military Honors.
