Donald Conkling, a lifetime Middletown resident, died on Thursday August 25 at home. He was 81.

The son of the late Russel and Marguerite Conkling, he was born on April 12, 1930 in Middletown.

Don was a graduate of Middletown High School and proudly served in the U.S. Airforce from 1951-53. He worked as a pressman for Southern Dutchess News until his retirement. He was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Middletown, Elks BPOE #1097 and was a member and trustee of the F.O. Eagles in Middletown. He was also a huge Yankees fan.

Don was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who always honored family. He spent his life working hard and being a good provider for his family.

Don is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Beverly at home; his children, Dennis Hamilton and his wife Helen of Middletown; Charles D. Conkling and his wife Christine; Daniel J. Conkling and wife Victoria all of Walton; Linda McCabe and her husband Danny of Skylerville, NY; Dave Williams of Las Vegas; Donny Conkling of Walton; Kevin Williams and his wife Kathie of Middletown; Lee Williams and his wife Barbara of Middletown; Nancy Vollkommer and her husband Kenny of Delancy; Tony Williams and his wife Tina of Lindenhurst; and Leon Williams of Wallkill; 18 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Visitation hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm on Monday, August 29, 2011 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue,

Middletown, NY 10940. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 am on Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 90 Euclid Avenue, Middletown, Ny 10940. Following cremation, burial with military honors will take place in O.C. Veterans Cemetery, 11 Craigville Road, Goshen, NY 10924.
