Dominick “Nick” Amitrano, a longtime area resident and retired salesman for Nabisco, died after a short illness at the New Paltz Rehabilitation Center on February 19, 2020. He was 95 years old.
The son of the late Firminio and Rose Amitrano, he was born on June 15, 1924 in Chicago, Ill.
Dominick served proudly in the U.S. Army during WW II. He was a member of the Elks Lodge #1097; A Trustee, past president and loyal volunteer member of the Eagles Engine Company for 40 years, and a Veteran of the U.S. Armed Occupations Forces in the South Pacific. He was an avid golfer and loved sports.
He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Stella, his children, Eleanor Brady of Port Jervis, Barbara Higby (Philip) of Otisville, and step-children, Linda Ritchie Weyant, Lisa Ritchie and Bob Ritchie; two sisters, Emily Love and Lena Schoonmaker, as well as ten grandchildren; Kimberly, Deborah (Chris), Allison, Alissa (Lawrence), Richard (Nicole), David (Nicole), Bryan (deceased), Paul (Julie), Erin and Jennifer.
He was also blessed with 13 great grandchildren, Alexis, Alana, Ashlyn, Matthew, Catilyn, Joseph, Tyler, Celena, Christopher, Kellen, Andrew, Bryn, and Grace.
Nick was a kind, loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
Visitation will take place on Sunday, February 23, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home Inc., 130 Highland Ave., Middletown NY, 10940. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s R.C. Church, 149 Cottage St., Middletown N.Y., at 11 a.m., on Monday, February 24th. Entombment will follow at the Queen of Peace Mausoleum, St. Joseph’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Carmelite Friars, P.O. Box 868, Carmelite Drive, Middletown, N.Y.
