Denard L. Michael, II, a longtime area resident, died unexpectedly while performing with his fellow band members on Thursday, March 2, 2017 in Newburgh. He was 78.
The son of the late Denard L. and Addie M. Michael, he was born on September 28, 1938 in New Smyrna Beach, FL. He received his Associates Degree from Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach, FL. Denard was married to Annie M. Michael. He worked as a Youth Opportunity Supervisor for Letchworth Village in Theills, NY until his retirement.
Denard was a talented musician who played saxophone, and he always loved to be part of the music. He was active in many bands throughout his lifetime including the Senior Express Band at Mulberry House, the Swingshift Orchestra in Wurtsboro, the Pine Bush Community Band and the SUNY Orange Symphonic Band.
In addition to his loving wife, Annie at home, Denard is survived by his three children, Gregory D. Michael of Burlington, NJ, Reginald D. Michael of Pembroke Pines, FL and Chimatara Michael of Owings, MD and her fiance Ralph Nebbioso. He is also survived by his three siblings, James O. Michael, Elliott M. Michael Bennett and Robert L. Michael and his wife Bettie; one grandchild, Natara Michael and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Funeral Service of Remembrance will be held at 8 pm on Thursday evening at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Wallkill Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Denard’s name may be made to Mulberry House, 62-70 West Main Street, Middletown, NY 10940.
