Delma Iris Gonzalez-Sostre, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, died on Sunday, March 23, 2014 at Orange Regional Medical Center in Middletown. She was 69.
Delma was born in March 1, 1945 in Ponce, Puerto Rico, the daughter of the late Felix Gonzalez and Gumersinda Rosario.
Delma worked for Guild Motors and attended St. Joseph’s Church in Middletown. She married Marcos Sostre on April 15, 1959 in Puerto Rico and spent 37 years with him until his death in 1996.
Delma loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was famous among family and friends for giving out nicknames. The Queen of the one liners, she will be remembered for her great sense of humor. Delma was also a true NY Yankee Fan.
Delma is survived by her beloved family, two sons, Marcos Sostre and Joseph Sostre; four daughters, Evelyn Sostre, Zelma Melendez and her husband Lorenzo, Shirley Sostre; all of Middletown and Anna Marie Scott of PA; her sisters, Judith Soto and her husband Felix, Blanca Gonzalez, Doris Gonzalez , and Milagros Gonzalez; and her brother, Jose Antonio Lopez and his wife Mary. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Valentina, Jessica, C.J., Samantha, Lauren, Denzel, Shania, Norma Iris, Jaleena, Essence and Allen; and her great-grandchildren, Luis, Jamaralyse and Leah.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Delma was predeceased by her daughter, Norma Iris Sostre, her sister, Luz Maria Gonzalez and brothers, Juan Antonio Gonzalez, William Rosario and Felix Gonzalez, Jr.
Visitation hours will be from 5 to 9 pm on Thursday, March 27, 2014 at Applebee-McPhilips Funeral Home, Inc, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am on Friday, March 28, 2014 at St. Joseph’s Church, 149 Cottage Street, Middletown, NY. Burial will follow in the family plot in Hillside Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc. www.applebee-mcphillips.com
