Age 58. Circleville, NY
Darlene was born April 12, 1965 at Horton Hospital in Middletown, NY to Georgiana and Larry Mittico. Darlene passed away om October 17, 2023 at Westchester Medical Center. I want to thank the doctors and nurses in the Neuro ICU for their kindness. I would also like to thank the people at Live On New York during this difficult time.
Darlene graduated from John S. Burke Catholic High School in 1983. Darlene received her Masters in Special Education from Mount Saint Mary College. Darlene had 35 years in her field. At the time of her death she was a Special Education Consultant Teacher/CSE Liaison at Sullivan BOCES. She worked at BOCES for 14 years. Before BOCES she worked at the Center for Discovery for 21 years. She started in Residential houses and became a teacher while at The Center For Discovery. Darlene always wanted to be a teacher. She entered this field because our sister Lori Ann with special needs attended a summer program at AHRC that Darlene volunteered at. During the pandemic Darlene was a tutor with Club Z.
Darlene is survived by her sisters Lori Ann and Nicole both of Circleville, NY. She is also survived by cousins, friends, colleagues and her students. Darlene was predeceased by our father Larry and our mother Georgiana.
Darlene was a wonderful sister. She always put everyone's needs above her own. When our mother died in 2004 Darlene gave up her house in Woodridge to help take care of Lori Ann. She said it was the only home Lori Ann knew.
A Visitation will be held on Friday October 27 from 11:00 Pm-1:00 Pm at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home 130 Highland Avenue Middletown, NY. A funeral service will commence at 12:15 Pm with Pastor Paul Richmond Officiating. Burial will follow in Wallkill Cemetary, Middletown, NY
