Clara S. Madigan, a 60-year resident of Middletown, New York, died unexpectedly on June 20,2018 at home. She was 98.
The daughter of the late Jacob and Clara Dickershoff Stadlinger, she was born on August 14, 1919 in Buffalo, New York. She worked for the Enlarged City School District of Middletown for over 30 years as a Dental Hygienist teacher and was affectionately known as “The Tooth Lady.” Not only did she teach, but she used all her own time to professionally clean the teeth of children who were unable to afford to go to a Dentist.
Her service to the community did not stop there. She was the past President of the Lenten Sewing Club (Horton Hospital Auxiliary), past president of the Meals-On-Wheels of Middletown, a longtime Lioness of the Middletown Lions Club where she lead and participated in many service activities in the community. She was a member of the NY State Retired Teachers Association and the Middletown Area Retired Teachers Association. She also served on numerous committees at Glen Arden Retirement Community where she resided for the last six years and took many trips with the group. She was an active member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church of Middletown and loved her church family very much.
She was predeceased by her loving husband of 50 years, W. Norton Madigan. She is survived by her adopted family members, Joan Wolfe and her husband, Jim Wolfe of Middletown, New York, Kelly Wolslayer and her husband, Ray Rosenbloom of Mount Laurel, New Jersey, Rick Wolslayer of Delmar, New York, and her church family, especially Pastor Peter Rustico and his family, also Robin and Don Talmadge and their daughter, Jessica, and numerous friends.
A Memorial Service will be held on June 29, 2018 at 2 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 391 Mount Hope Road, Middletown, New York 10940.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to St. John’s Lutheran Church Altar Guild or a charity of one’s choice.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Applebee-Mcphillips Funeral Home, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, New York.
