Clara Julia Dziengiel, a longtime Middletown resident, died on Friday, March 2, 2012 at St. Teresa’s Nursing Home. She was 85.
The daughter of the late Frank and Helen Kuklo Glowaczewski, Clara was born on July 4, 1926 in Warwick, NY. She married Edward J. Dziengiel, Sr., and they raised 3 sons and 7 daughters together. Clara's family was her life. She loved cooking and baking for everyone. She was a woman of strong faith who was a member of St. Joseph's R.C. Church in Middletown for over 50 years. She loved to crochet and enjoyed music. She was a loving wife, mom, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be remembered by those who knew and loved her as a firecracker.
She is survived by her children; Andrea Lunham and her husband William of Middletown, Diane Braun of New Hampton, Marianne Whelan and her husband Thomas of Stanhope, NJ, Noreen Liggero and her husband John of Monroe, Suzanne Watters and her husband Larry of Middletown, Edward Dziengiel, Jr of Goshen, David Dziengiel and his wife Brenda of Bloomingburg, Michele Dziengiel of Goshen, Kim Marie Corwin and her husband John of Middletown and Christopher Dziengiel of Pine Bush. Clara is also survived by her brother, Norman Glowaczewski and his wife Jean of Florida and sisters Irene Oresik of Portage, IN and Alice Paffenroth of Pine Island; as well as 13 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Clara was predeceased by her beloved husband Edward Dziengiel, Sr. on April 27, 1986, two brothers, Alfonse and Joseph Glowaczewski and a sister, Charlotte Salyer.Â

Visitation hours will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm on Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at St. Joseph's R.C. Church, 149 Cottage Street, Middletown, NY 10940. Burial will follow in the family plot in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Middletown.
Memorial contributions in Clara's name may be made to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, NY 12550.
