Chester E. “Chet” Dow
May 15, 1943 – April 4, 2023
Chester was born in Middletown, N.Y. on May 15, 1943 to Walter Dow Jr. and Genevieve Hooper Dow. He died on April 4, 2023 at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, N.Y. after a long illness. He was 79. He was a 1962 graduate of Middletown High School.
Chester had a liver transplant 20 years ago. Over the years he was a salesman who sold among other things, Beechnut Baby Food, B&G Pickles, cars and restaurant equipment. He owned and managed a custard stand, Scoopy Doo in Slate Hill for 3 years. He also owned a car upholstery shop, Chet’s Auto Trim, which specialized in custom seat covers as well as convertible tops and car interiors. He was a good baseball player, he liked to play golf and he was a Little League coach.
He was a 61 year member of the Ontario Fire Company and former member of the Slate Hill Fire Company, Jaycees, Orange County Antique Car Club and the Democratic Club of Wawayanda.
He liked to watch the Yankees and the Giants. He loved to cook and eat, especially Italian food. He could fix just about anything. He was very stubborn.
Chet is survived by his wife of 59 years, Bonnie of Middletown, NY, his children; Thomas Dow (Julie) of Beavercreek, Ohio, Kevin Dow (Paula) of Tampa, Florida, Nicole Miraglia (Joe) of Jacksonville, Florida, Tammie Dow and Jonathan Dow of Middletown, Julianne Collinger (Justin) of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Stephen Dow (Vanessa) of Chicago, Illinois, his grandchildren; Aaron, Ashley, Elliott, Emilia, Matthew and great-granddaughter Rylinn, his brother, Walter Dow of Port Jervis, New York.
He was predeceased by his parents, sister Patricia and his son Chris.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 14, 2023 from 1-5 pm at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, New York 10940.
Cremation will be private.
Contributions may be made to the Shriner’s Hospital or Pets Alive.
Arrangements are under the direction of Apple-McPhillips Funeral Home.
