Chelsey Lynne Samoila, beloved daughter, granddaughter, sister, niece and friend of many, died unexpectedly at home on November 24, 2014. She was 21 years old.
Chelsey was joyfully welcomed into life on September 15, 1993 in Middletown, by her mother, C. Lynne LeBeau, her father, Mircea “Mitch” Samoila, and her brother, Zachary James Samoila. She attended Middletown schools, and was a full-time student at SUNY Orange, close to completing her Associates Degree. At the same time Chelsey worked for Target in Middletown. She approached school and work with the same determination and effort.
Chelsey loved performing in her school plays, developing a lifelong love of theatre in early childhood. She first performed for OCCC Summer Star Theatre, and subsequently performed in school plays throughout elementary, middle and high school. Chelsey was especially proud to be a cast member of “Rent” at MHS, as it reflected her love and acceptance of people regardless of race, religion, or whom they loved. Chelsey did not merely express her feelings and kindness for others in words, but lived a life of generosity of spirit and acceptance. Her sense of humor lifted spirits, her radiant smile brought comfort and encouragement, and her courageous stances against injustice or cruelty uplifted those in need. She felt acutely the suffering of people around the world, and loved all animals, excitedly looking forward to a puppy of her own. She also treasured her time spent with her Girl Scout Troop. Chelsey will be remembered as a genuine, loyal and true friend to many, and her presence will be dearly missed by all who were fortunate enough to be touched by her light.
Chelsey is survived by her adoring mother, C. Lynne LeBeau, and her partner, Bill McGillicuddy, her devoted father, Mitch Samoila, and his partner, Eileen Ferretti; her co-comedian and protective big brother, Zachary; grandparents Maria and Nick Samoila of Queens; three uncles and her cousins whom she adored. Chelsey was predeceased by her grandfather, her “ Poppy,” Richard Neal.
Visitation will be from 6-9 pm on Monday, December 1, 2014, at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Celebration of Chelsey’s Life will be held at 11am on Tuesday, December 2, 2014, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery, Middletown, NY.
A scholarship fund for the benefit of the performing arts at Middletown High School is in the process of being established. In the interim, memorial donations may be made to William D. McGillicuddy Esq. c/o William D. McGillicuddy Law Office, P.C., 254 Route 17K, Suite 104, Newburgh, New York 12550, to be transferred to the fund when established. Alternately, flowers are welcome.
