Charles H. Wells, a retired Corrections Officer from Otisville State Prison, died unexpectedly on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis, NY. He was 81.
The son of the late Sam and Elga Travelee Wells, he was born on April 15, 1935 in Bellport, Long Island. He married Nancy Hunter on February 12, 1955 in Goshen, NY. A short time later, Charles enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served as an M.P..He was a man of many talents and after being discharged from his Military service, he was a member of the Harlem Globetrotters Farm Team. Charles was a good provider and devoted husband, father and grandfather.
In addition to his loving wife Nancy at home, he is survived by his son, Samuel Hampton of the Bronx, three brothers, Bernard, Douglas and Joseph and one sister Shirley Cruz all of Bellport, Long Island. He also leaves four grandchildren, Monet Dalpiaz and her husband Brian, Raquel Noriega, Camille Payne and her husband Chris and Ariel Noriega.
Charles was predeceased by his daughter, Naomi Wells Noriega in 2008.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 pm on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home,Inc, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Funeral service will be held at 5:30 pm on Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Cremation will be private at the convenience of the family.
