Obituary for Charles Andrew Mays
Charles Andrew “Andy” Mays, a resident of the area, died unexpectedly at home on April 8, 2020. He was 59.
Andy worked as an Internet and Voice Representative at Spectrum/Charter, and held past positions at Macy’s and as an insurance adjuster. He earned degrees in Journalism and History from American University, and was an alum of Orange County Community College and Middletown High School.
Andy was passionate about the arts, theater, science-fiction and travel, and enjoyed practicing his Russian and French on overseas walking tours. A friend for life, Andy was the link who kept in touch with those both near and far, routinely sharing updates on milestones and important events. His favorite vacation spot was Provincetown, MA and frequently remarked that, if he ever won the lottery, he would buy a vacation house there along with his friends. Always the one for quick-witted remarks, Andy’s sarcastic sense of humor could catch others off-guard, causing the room to erupt into fits of laughter. His legendary affinity for all things chocolate led to a fondness for the Something Sweet Cafe in Middletown. Most importantly, however, he was a fierce friend, a proud big-brother and an exceptionally loving uncle whose humorous stories, movie reviews, ice cream stand excursions and relaxing in the shade under the ferns on the front porch will be forever missed.
Charles “Andy” is survived by his brother Matthew and wife Michelle with nephews Harrison and Carson of Barrington, Illinois; sister-in-law Jackie of Sunrise, Florida; and the most wonderful, extended family of cousins that were more to him like brothers and sisters. He was pre-deceased by his parents, Barbara and Joseph, and his brother, Michael.
A celebration of Andy’s life will take place later this year.
