Cathleen Roggeman, a former longtime Middletown resident, died on September 21, 2014 in Matthews, N.C. a day before her 88th birthday.

The daughter of the late Rose and Albert Rutherford, she was born in the Bronx on September 22, 1926. She graduated from Cathedral High School in Manhattan in 1944 and attended the Gregg Business School. She worked for several insurance companies in New York City. On June 18, 1949, she married Warren Roggeman at St. Helena’s in the Bronx and they raised six children together. Throughout their lifetime together, Cathleen followed her husband from Maryland to New Jersey, Colorado, New York State, Florida and finally to North Carolina. While living in Middletown, she worked for Kassell’s Haberdashery as well as the New York State Records Bureau.

Cathleen was always dedicated to the Catholic Church and was active in the Cursillo Movement and served as a team leader for engaged couples weekends when she was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in Middletown, NY. She sang in many church choirs throughout the country, and was recently a member of St. Luke’s Church in Matthews, NC. She was also active in the New York State Senior Games in 2002 &2003 where she won two gold medals on a Bermuda cruise. She also won a bocce tournament at Villa Roma Resort in Catskill, NY. In the last five years, Cathleen has been a resident of Mint Hill at the Willow Grove Senior residence. She was a woman of faith who was full of love for others and spent many years contributing to the poor and down trodden in our country.

In addition to her loving husband Warren at home, she is survived by her six children; Mark and his wife Rosalie of Denver, CO, Lynn Brown and her husband Allan Larcara of Matthews, NC, Paul Roggeman and his wife Barbara, and Lori Cramer all of Middletown, Lisa Costello and her husband Mark of Saratoga Springs, NY, and John Roggeman of Middletown, 14 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

A Mass in Celebration of Cathleen’s life will be held at 9 am on Friday, September 26, 2014 at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, 149 Cottage Street, Middletown, NY 10940.
