Obituary for Catherine M. Sroka
Catherine Sroka of Pine Bush, N.Y., died on Tuesday, August 8, at Valley View Center For Nursing Care & Rehabilitation in Goshen, N.Y., at the age of 61.The daughter of the late Francis Herman and Anna Borys Lauterborn, she was born March 4, 1945 in Queens, N.Y., as the youngest of seven children.Catherine graduated from Christopher Columbus School in the Bronx. She later married Paul Sroka on December 2, 1967 in Queens.A family statement reads: "She was a fiercely independent woman who valued privacy. Although she was widowed in 1975, her love for her husband never diminished. She kept his memory alive in her own and the hearts of her children. The focus of her life was her entire family. Despite her recent illness, she has lived to see her grandchildren. She left a legacy of love for her family."Catherine is survived by her sons, Jason and his wife, Heather, and Xenos and his wife, Allison; brothers, James and Joseph Lauterborn, and one sister, Helen Redmond; and her precious five grandchildren.She was predeceased by her husband, Paul; sister, Virginia LaFauci; and brothers, Thomas and Charles Lauterborn.Friends and family may call on Thursday, August 10 from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday, August 11 from 9 to 10 a.m. at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Ave., Middletown, N.Y.A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, August 11 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph's R.C. Church, 149 Cottage Street, Middletown, N.Y.
