Catherine E. (Smith) Sudol was born in the Bronx, NY, the daughter of Kathleen Thelan and James Smith. She was 87.
Kate was raised in Pine Bush by her grandparents, Catherine and William Swan. She graduated from Pine Bush High School in 1942 where she met Henry, the love of her life and husband of nearly 68 years. She was a homemaker until she went to work in the Pine Bush Post Office for 27 years until 1985. After retiring, Kate headed the Senior Luncheon at St. Paul's for 15 years along with helping count the collections each Monday. She also volunteered with People for People and participated in the Grandmothers for Reading Program. Before diabetes robbed her of her sight, she loved the outdoors especially her flower gardens and ice fishing days at the club. Kate was a caring friend to many, but her most precious time was spent around the holiday tables with her entire family. Her favorite saying, "If you see my name in the obituary, you know it wasn't my idea", showed the zest forthe fulfilled life she lived. She will be missed by many, remembered by all she touched .
Survivors include her husband Henry; her two sons, Henry A. and his wife Jan and Stephen and his wife Mary; grandchildren, Michelle and her husband Todd, Lisa and her husband Doug, Jess and wife Kelly and Lyndsy and great-grandchildren, Amanda, Kyle, Alex, Colby, Aubrey and Brynn.
Visitation hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm on Monday, Nov. 5, 2012 at the funeral home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am on Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012 at St. Paul's R. C. Church, Rt. 17 K, Bullville, NY.
Burial will follow in the family plot in New Prospect Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in memory of Catherine to either the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 3049, Syracuse, NY 13220-3049 or to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312.
