Obituary for Carmencita Gapay
Carmen was the oldest of eight siblings and grew up in a family that shared the values of kindness and compassion for each other. Her faith was paramount in her life, manifested by her dedication to her church and religious causes.
Carmen was loving and the true matriarch of her family. Family was her source of joy and purpose. She often pulled her boundless energy from them. Her grandchildren were the sunshine of her life and her time with them was special and memorable.
She began her career as a teacher and used her talents to share the beliefs of her catholic faith. Carmen’s charismatic nature and hours spent volunteering in the church, brought the community closer together. She was selfless and generous to everyone.
Carmencita is survived by her loving husband, Dr. Alexander Gapay, her four children - Arlene Jacobson (husband Steve); Bernard "Paul" Gapay; Charles Gapay (wife Raquel “Pinky”) and David Gapay (wife Deanna), as well as her adoring grandchildren - Nicholas, Alison, Eric, Samuel, CJ, Ethan ,Mason and one more on the way, three great grandchildren, Austin, Sienna and Emilia. Also surviving are her brothers, Erik Garaygay, Eddie Garaygay and sister Sylvia Persaud, as well as many nieces, nephews and a multitude of friends.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 24, 2022 from 1-3pm and 6-8pm at the funeral home and a Mass of Catholic Burial will be celebrated on Friday March 25, 2022 at 11 amin The Church of St. Joseph, 149 Cottage St. Middletown, N.Y. Burial will follow in the family plot at St. Joseph's Cemetery.
Memorial Contributions may be made in her name to Food Bank of Hudson Valley and American Kidney Fund.
