Beverly J. Mita of Pine Island, NY died Thursday, January 9th, 2025 in her home. She was 82.
The daughter of late Barney and Clara Porpora, Beverly was born January 1st, 1943 in Bronx,
NY. She was predeceased by her husband, Richard Mita, in 2017 and her sister, Josephine
Porpora in 2013.
Beverly was a longtime front end supervisor of Price Chopper in Middletown, NY. Previously
she worked as a bookkeeper at Friendly’s in Middletown and as a tax professional at H and R
Block and later out of her home. Beverly was always an active member of the community. She
volunteered with number of organizations including the Wallkill Senior organization, serving as
their president for many years, with Literacy Volunteers of America, and as a Sunday School
Teacher. Beverly was also a poll worker for the Town of Wallkill. Beverly was a constant
creator and crafter. She was always looking for her next creative endeavor including creating
her daughter’s wedding gown and installing a picket fence in her kitchen. Those close to
Beverly have many keepsakes that she created for them as gifts. She could be found in her
kitchen baking and cooking for her family and friends. She created incredible meals and baked
goods that nourished both the body and soul. Everyone who knew her was touched by her
kindness and generosity. She was always putting the needs of others before herself. She was
the longtime caregiver for her husband, Richard. Beverly and Richard also served as foster
parents. Beverly is fondly remembered as constantly having a warm home, book, and a cup of
coffee.
She is survived by her three children, Paul Mita and his wife Kim of Otisville, NY, Deborah
Milling and her husband Robert of Liberty, NY; and Joseph Mita and his wife Amanda of Pine
Island, NY; two brothers Dennis Porpora and his wife Linda of New Jersey, and John Porpora
and his wife Linda of Arizona; 7 grandchildren, Ashley, Charlie, Paige, Kirianna, Abrielle,
Jaxsen, and Alexander; and 2 great grandchildren, Levi and Beckett.
Visitation will be Monday, January 20, 2025 from 5-8 PM in the Applebee McPhillips Funeral
Home in Middletown, NY.
Funeral services will be Monday, January 20, 2025 at 7:45 PM in the funeral home.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Applebee McPhillips Funeral Home in
