Bernice Armistead, a longtime area resident, died on Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at Glen Arden Health Care Center in Goshen. She was 85.

The daughter of the late John and Martha Reilly Nolan, she was born on July 25, 1924 in Jersey City, N.J. She married Robert T. Armistead, who predeceased her on October 17, 1983.

She was a member of the Ladies' Auxilary at Valley Hospital, and the O.C. Historical Society, as well as a volunteer at Hill- Hold Museum in Montgomery. During her lifetime, Bernice was a member of both Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Bloomingburg and St. Paul's R.C. Church in Bullville. She enjoyed peaceful times sitting out on her porch as a resident at Yankee Lake.

She is survived by her four sons, Robert and his wife Susan of Campbell Hall, Matthew and his wife Nancy of Oradell, NJ, Kevin and his wife Susan of Goshen, and Stephen and his wife Ellyn of Port Washington, NY; and 10 grandchildren, Robert, Kane, Brian, Matthew Jr., Daniel, John, Elizabeth, Lillian, Madelyn and Justin; 7 great-grandchildren.

Visitation hours for immediate family and close friends are from 9:30 to 11:30 am on Friday, June 18, 2010 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue,  Middletown, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12 pm at St. Paul's R.C. Church, Rt. 17K in Bullville, NY. Burial will take place in the family plot in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Wurtsboro.

Memorial contributions in Bernice's name may be made to Hill Hold, 128 State Rt. 416, Campbell Hall, NY 10916.
