Obituary for Beatrice Rosenblum
Beatrice Rosenblum, a former columnist for the Times Herald-Record and celebrated author, died Thursday, October 19, 2006 at Stamford Hospital. She was 93.The daughter of the late Sol and Lillian Ingersoll Garfunkel, Beatrice was born November 9, 1912 in Utica, N.Y.She attended and received her B.S. from Columbia University. Beatrice married Martin Rosenblum on February 22, 1942. She was an expert on antiques and collectables, a gift that she showcased in her news column and in several books. She was credited with bringing life to the world of antiques, instilling it with her love and excitement for collecting and understanding objects and their uses. She shared her knowledge in her newspaper columns in New York, Connecticut and Pennsylvania; her books and as a longtime instructor at Orange County Community College in Middletown, N.Y.Through her books and columns, she publicized the homes and collections of many people in Orange County and throughout the Hudson Valley. Beatrice also contributed to her community as a board member at Hill Hold in Montgomery and as the founder of the gift shop at Horton Hospital, among other acheivements.Although they are deeply saddened by their loss, Beatrice's family is very grateful for her life and the times they shared with her.She is survived by her loving children, James and his wife, Mary, of Greenwich, Conn., Constance Rosenblum and her husband, Andrew Geller of Brooklyn; cherished grandchildren: Sarah Olivia Geller of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Nina and Victoria Rosenblum of Greenwich, Conn.; one sister, Celestia LeWitt of Avon, Conn.; two nephews, Dr. Michael DeLitt and Dr. Peter DeLitt; and several cousins.She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Martin Rosenblum in 1993.Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.A Memorial will be held in Greenwich, Conn. in November, 2006.
