Obituary for Barbara May Fortin
In loving memory of Barbara May Anderson Fortin, who was born on 4/17/1940 to Kenneth A. Anderson & Vera A. Mosher Anderson, in Rochester, NY.
Barbara married on June 3, 1961 to Richard G. Fortin of Ogdensburg, NY
Barbara passed away peacefully on June 22, 2022 in Hospice Care at Garnett Hospital in Middletown, NY. She was surrounded by her loving family.
Barbara is Survived by: Her loving and devoted - Husband – Richard G. Fortin; Daughter – Kelly Fortin of Odessa, Florida, and
Son and Daughter-in-Law -Kenneth Fortin and Michele Tironi Fortin; Grandchildren – Lindsay Fortin, Danny Fortin, Zander Matthews; and dearly loved nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.
Barbara Fortin was such a vibrant and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was always the first to reach out to anyone in need, sending love, encouragement and prayers to family and friends facing difficult times. She was blessed with the gift of hospitality, as her door was always open and welcoming to visitors, and her kitchen table a place of many gatherings and much laughter.
She loved to sing, loved theatre, cruises and vacations in Florida. She loved traveling with her beloved husband and best friend of 61 years; always seeking out an adventure - whether day trips near to home or a bit further away.
She showed so much strength through 20 years of battling multiple cancers, and taught her children by example through life’s adversities, to never give up and that “everything always falls into place.” Her courage and strength appropriately earning her the nickname of “Wonder Woman.”
She so cherished her family, especially her three beautiful grandchildren, and lives on through them all in the strength and goodness each of them showed in their lives. She will be deeply missed by all - her husband, family and many, many friends of whom she considered all to be family.
Her devotion to God as her lord and savior gives us hope and peace, knowing that we will one day see her again in all heaven’s glory.
Barbara’s ashes will be buried at their family plot in Lakeside Cemetery, Sackets Harbor, NY. A celebration of life will be planned at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, and in honor of Barbara’s granddaughter Lindsay’s journey against Leukemia, donations can be made in Memory of Barbara Fortin to “Leukemia Research” at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center www.roswellpark.org/giving).
