Barbara Maher of Hancock and formerly a thirty year resident of Middletown, died on Saturday October 29 at Orange Regional Medical Center. She was 65.
The youngest of the late Melvin and Arlene Tarbox Sprague's eight children, she was born on August 8, 1946 in East Branch, NY. Barbara was retired certified nursing assistant for Montgomery Nursing Home and the wife of the late Walter "Butch" J. Maher.
Barbara was a dedicated member of the United Methodist Church in Hancock. She will be remembered by her loving family as an avid church goer and loved animals and enjoyed shopping and hunting for bargains.
She is survived by her children and their significant others; Wade and Jessica Watt of Middletown and Teresa and Christopher Fico of Lackawaxen, PA. Barbara is also survived by sisters; Idola Sheriden of Starlight, PA, Ruth S. Toth of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Glorian Conklin of Livingston Manor; and four grandchildren, Alisha Davis, Stefan Krajcovic, Raychale Smith and Joseph Smith II.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 pm on Thursday, November 3, 2011 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Funeral Service will be held at 7:30 pm Thursday evening at the funeral home, the Reverend Roxy Moses will officiate. Cremation will be private at Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope, NY.
