Barbara Reineke, a lifetime area resident, died on Thursday, November 22, 2012 at Orange Regional Medical Center. She was 58.Â
The daughter of the late Lawrence Reineke and Catherine (Leonard) Reineke, Barbara is survived by her loving family: Kathleen (Reineke) Steenrod and husband Edwin, Stephen Reineke and wife Alicia, and Christopher Reineke and wife Patricia. Her nieces and nephew include Sarah, Jennifer, Michelle, Michael, Christina, and Emily. She is also survived by her very special grand-niece, Mackenzie.Â
Barbara graduated from North Carolina State University. She worked as a Registered Nurse in many locations; most recently, she was a cardiac nurse at Crystal Run Healthcare in Middletown NY. Her caring attitude and thoughtfulness touched many lives of those in need of cardiac care. As a final tribute, she was an organ donor and was able to give her heart and other organs to families in need.Â
Throughout her life, she had a love for animals and nature. She had a long-time animal companion, Kita, and recently fell in love with her new dog, Boo-Boo. She enjoyed watching the birds out her window and the panda-cam at the Zoo. She was an avid gardener, growing many orchids and serving as a Master Gardener with Orange County Cooperative Extension. She also had a passion for reading, which started at a young age, and she enjoyed keeping the librarians busy over many years.Â
Visitation hours are on Friday, Nov. 30 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Saturday, December 1, 2012 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 90 Euclid Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940.
