Armando Colarieti, a retired NYS DOT worker, died on Friday October 9 at Arden Hill Hospital in Goshen, following a short illness. He was 87.

The son of the late Sattimio and Angela Negri Colarieti, he was born on February 18, 1922 in Turni, Italy. During his service in the Italian Army in World War II, Armando was captured as a prisoner of war. He was transferred to a U.S. Army base, where he met his wife, Louise, a cook on the base, and fell in love. Louise and Armando traveled to Italy and were married; and they later moved back to the States and raised their family.

He is survived by his sons, Salvatore and his wife Elaine of Pine Bush and Armando Jr. and his wife Noreen of Middletown; three daughters, Angela Nestor and her husband Gary of Milford, PA; Mary Geiger and her husband Roger of Howells and Linda Kruger and her husband Charles of the State of Florida; one sister, Rina Cefarello and 15 grandchildren, Robert, Becky, David, Roger, Nicole, Sal, Michael, Gina, Joseph, Dana, Allyson, Anthony, Aileen, Dan and Dierdre; as well as 9 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Armando was predeceased by his wife Louise in 1992 and one grandson, Salvatore T. Colarieti.

Visitation hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm on Sunday, October 11, 2009 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown. A Funeral Service of Remembrance will be held at 11 am on Monday, October 12, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the family plot in Wallkill Cemetery, Middletown. Funeral arrangements under the direction of Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home.
