Antoinette Italiano, devoted grandmother and loving mother, died on Sunday, November 26, 2017 at Highland Rehabilitation Center in Middletown. She was 101.
The daughter of the late Pasquale and Maria Sollito Calvo, she was born in Brooklyn, NY. Antoinette married Luca Assande in 1939, and they shared nearly 30 years of marriage together until his death in 1967. She worked as an office manager for Consolidated Laundry for 18 years. In 1969, she married Victor Italiano, who predeceased her in 2001.
Antoinette had a love of words, and enjoyed writing poetry and doing crossword puzzles, which she did right up until her death. She was independent, determined and lived by herself until she was 101 years old.
She is survived by her sons, Anthony Assande and his wife Theresa of The Villages, Fl, Luke Assande of Bellmore, NY and daughter-in-law Francine Assande of East Meadow, NY and five stepsons, Victor, Richard, John, David and Marc Italiano; one sister, Yolanda Forgione of Floral Park, Queens, NY. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren; Anthony Jr., Robert (Elizabeth), Nicholas (Tricia) Jessica (David), Rebecca (David); and step-grandchildren: Paul, Jeffrey, Joseph, Rita, Cathy, John, Adrienne, and James and numerous nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren.
She was preceased by her treasured granddaughter, Bridget Brewer and also by her five siblings, Patrick, Joseph, Mary, Thomas and Nicholas.
Visitation will be Thursday, November 30, 2017 from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 am on Friday, December 1, 2017 at St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church, 2800 Rt 17K, Bullville, NY 10915. Cremation will be private and interment will follow at a later date in the family plot in St. Charles Cemetery in Farmingdale, NY.
Memorial contributions in Antoinette’s may be made to the Perinatal Bereavement Unit at ORMC, 707 East Main Street, Middletown, NY 10940.
