Anthony Sportelli of Middletown, died suddenly on Tuesday October 16 at Orange Regional Medical Center Middletown, NY. He was 90.
Tony was born in Conversano Di Bari, Italy, the youngest of nine children, to Dominick and Luiga (Bellini) Sportelli. He was a Merchant Seaman and immigrated to the U.S. in 1952.
Tony was an avid fisherman who lived with the catch of his life, his beloved wife Mary (Ruffini) of 59 years, who survives at home. He was an expert handyman who always had a tool in his hand ready to fix something and greatly helped his daughter and son in law, Louisa and Stephen LoCascio, spruce up their home. Dad also loved to garden, especially his tomato and zucchini plants. He dearly loved his "cuccazeels"(little squashes), his grandchildren Stacey and Justin LoCascio.
He was predeceased by five brothers and three sisters. He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews both in the U.S. and in Italy.
Visitation hours are from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 Â pm on Sunday, October 21, 2012 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 90 Euclid Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940.Â
Burial will follow in the family plot in Manning Cemetery in Greenville, NY.
Visitation hours are from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm on Sunday, October 21, 2012 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 90 Euclid Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940.Â
Burial will follow in the family plot in Manning Cemetery in Greenville, NY.
