Obituary for Anthony Oerlyn Thatcher

With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Anthony Oerlyn Thatcher on August 7, 2024, at the age of 17.

Born May 17, 2007, Anthony will forever be a cherished son, grandson, brother, and friend. His vibrant spirit, compassion, and

unyielding sense of justice have left an indelible mark on all who knew him.

Anthony was a Pine Bush High School senior and a dedicated wrestler admired for his perseverance and the heart he brought to every match. He never backed down from any challenge. It was said of him, “Anthony fought hard every time he stepped

onto the mat and was a great kid all around.” Outside of school, Anthony proudly served as a member of the Bloomingburg Fire Company, embodying a solid commitment to his community. He was also an avid martial arts practitioner at Renzo Gracie MMA

Middletown, where he pursued his passion for Jiu-Jitsu Muy Thai and calf kicking his Dad.

Anthony applied determination to every aspect of his life. Anthonys’ interests were eclectic and fueled by an insatiable thirst for knowledge. These interests included Traveling, Reading, creating and developing board games, geography, topography,

cartography, writing, UFC, art, music, and Godzilla. His cats and dogs were an ever source of comfort for him, even though he was allergic to cats.

As a member of Family Church, Anthony formed deep and meaningful connections with his church family. His intelligence, courage, and unwavering commitment to standing up for what he believed in were a testament to his character.

Anthony was never afraid to challenge others to do what was right, earning the respect and admiration of those around him.

He is survived by his loving father and mother, Hycin Thatcher; Toni Ann Susha Thatcher; his sister, Angelique; Grandfather Hyvis; aunts, uncles, extended family, and friends.

Anthony’s life will be celebrated on Saturday, August 31, at 11 a.m. at Family Church at 510 M&M Road in Middletown, NY, followed by a family-style barbecue or, as Anthony would call it, a “tasting party”. All who knew Anthony were invited to celebrate his remarkable life.

The Family's Tremendous and heartfelt thanks go to all who have called and offered support in this time of significant loss. Anthony’s presence, strength, and brilliance will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his

legacy live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
