Obituary for Anna Mae Inverarity
ANNA MAE INVERARITY

May 18, 1939 - January 31, 2018

Middletown, NY

Anna Mae Inverarity, née Sullivan, entered into eternal rest on the 31st of January at the Orange County Regional Medical Center in Middletown NY; she was 78 years young. Ann relocated to Middletown from Yonkers in 1974 with her husband the late John "Jack" Inverarity and her two young sons, Christopher and Scott. Barely a year after moving to Middletown, Ann became a widow. It was then she showed the resilience that would serve her well throughout her life.

Ann was a graduate of Yonkers High School, class of ‘57. After graduating from Orange County Community College class of ‘82 Anna would work full-time commuting to Westchester and Rockland counties working in both private practices and public hospitals before landing a fulltime position at Horton Memorial Hospital where she worked until her retirement. It was at Horton Hospital where Ann made the many friends that she has until this day.

Ann was born into a large Irish American family in Yonkers NY. Her mother, Anna Sullivan (nee Drain) and Daniel Sullivan had eight children. Veronica (Ronnie) Edward (Ed), Frank, Robert (Bob), John, Anna, James (Jim) and Daniel (Dan), all would remain close throughout their lives. Ann was the fifth child and an older sister to Jim and Dan and a guiding factor in their lives and those who looked up to her. Ann was an aunt to twenty-three nieces and nephews who she loved and enjoyed seeing especially when they had their own children in tow. Ann is survived by her brothers, James and Daniel; sisters-in-law: Lorraine Sullivan, Dorothy Sullivan, and Marsha Sullivan; her sons, Christopher and Scott and many nieces and nephews and their children.

Ann was a lifelong Catholic and attended many churches in the Middletown area with Our Lady of Mt. Carmel being her favorite and current Church. Mom could be found at Mt. Carmel faithfully attending Saturday services so she would be able to watch her favorite political shows on Sunday and be ready for Sunday night British programing on PBS, it was always best to find a night other than Sunday to call and chat. Ann’s dog Holli was a constant companion for many years and they both kept active on many walks through the woods and trips to their favorite destination, Orange County Park, Holli singing the whole last mile before the entrance.

My brother and I would like to express our profound gratitude to the Nurses, Aides and staff of ORMC, especially those on 5-South who worked tirelessly to attend to Mom’s every need and kept her comfortable during her stay. We would like to thank her Doctors, Dr. Jeffry Stewart, Dr. Ravi Ramaswamy and Dr. Ronal Harel and Dr. Singh who kept Mom in the best health possible as long as possible. We would like to thank the staff of Chrystal Run Healthcare who always had a smile for Mom when she came in for treatments. We would like to thank Scott’s companion Leigh Hamilton whose excellent advice came from her own experiences. We would also like to thank Barbara Wilhelmy of Umbrella Care Management who came to us in a time of need and helped my brother and I make plans and manage the endless details and complications which took a huge burden off our shoulders.

In lieu of flowers we would like you to consider Donations to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation www.bcrf.org. Please also consider giving blood www.redcrossblood.org you’ll never know how critical blood is until you need it.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, February 8 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, February 9 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 90 Euclid Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
