June 25, 1915-July 28, 2009

Angus D. Collins of Middletown, died on Tuesday July 28 at St. Teresa's Nursing Home in Middletown, NY. He was 93.

One of Dan and Christy MacLellan Collins' nine children, he was born on June 25, 1915 in South West Margaree, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia Canada. Angus married Mary Campbell on April 12, 1959 in Sunnyside, NY. He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Joyce Kilmer Council in Flushing, where he and Mary spent most of their lives together. A devout Roman Catholic,  Gus was very religious, proud of his Scotch Heritage and had a penchant for debate. He was the last of our family who could speak the pure Scottish Gaelic language.

He is survived by two of his six sisters; Anne and Theresa both of Ontario, Canada; as well as many nieces and nephews. Angus was predeceased by his loving wife, Mary Campbell Collins on July 22, 2008, two brothers and four sisters.

Visitation hours will be on Thursday, July 30, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 am on Friday, July 31, 2009 at St. Andrew Avellino, Northern Boulevard, Queens, NY. Burial will follow in Mount Saint Mary's Cemetery in Flushing, NY.
