Alice R. Meola, a longtime Middletown resident, died on Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at Orange Regional Medical Center with her loving family by her side. She was 90.
The daughter of the late John H. and Anna Crispell Rogers, she was born on August 22, 1922 in Harris, NY. Alice married Harry Meola, and they moved to the Middletown area in 1950. She owned and operated Meola Insurance in Middletown for many years. She was very active in her community, she volunteered with the original Meals on Wheels program in Middletown and as a gray lady at Horton Hospital. Alice also performed as a rockette in Horton’s High Fever Follies. She was a member of the Huguenot Historical Society, the Crispell Family Association and the D.A.R.
She was a wonderful cook who was loved by all. She was a strong and energetic lady who was always there for anyone who needed her. Alice will always be remembered for her kindness and generosity.
Alice is survived by her sons; John Meola of New Hampton and Tony Meola and his partner Carey Wagner of N.Y.C.; her brother, John “Jack” Rogers and his wife Doris of Hempstead, N.C.; two sisters, Grace Lagarenne of Narrowsburg and Genevieve Stine and her husband Raymond of New City; six nieces, three nephews; five greatnieces and one greatnephew.
She was predeceased by her husband Harry in 1991 and one son, Drew in 2009.
Visitation hours will be from 2 to4 and 6 to 8 pm on Thursday, December 6, 2012 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY. A Funeral Service of Rememberance will be celebrated at 10 am on Friday, December 7, 2012 at the Funeral Home with Fr. Patrick McGuigan, O.Carm will officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot in Bloomingburg Rural Cemetery, Rt. 17M, Bloomingburg, NY.
