Obituary for Alfred Sr. Post
ALFRED C. "PETE" POST, SR.

June 9, 1934 - May 16, 2012

Melbourne Beach, FL

Formerly of Middletown, NY

Al Post passed away on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 in Melbourne, FL after a long illness.

He was born in Middletown, NY on June 9, 1934, the son of the late Charles Wesley Post and Louise Drake Post. He was married in Goshen, NY on November 30, 1958 to Sara Biondi. Al spent his whole life in Middletown before "semi-retiring" to Melbourne Beach, FL in 1998.

He is survived by his wife, Sara, and his five children: Roseann Sellers of Gardiner, NY, Elizabeth (Gary) Friedman of Los Angeles, CA, Sarah (Patrick) Hutton, Michelle (Mike) Knowlton and Alfred C. (Heather) Post, Jr., all of the Middletown area. He leaves behind seven grandchildren: Paige and John Sellers, Katie and Zach Knowlton, Olivia and Emilie Hutton and Hannah Friedman. He is further survived by his two siblings, Katherine "Kitty" Beuerman and Lawrence "Bill" Post as well as numerous nieces, nephews, family members and friends. He was predeceased by his two sisters, Charlotte and Helen.

Al was self-employed his whole life. He operated two gas/service stations in Middletown, an excavating business and a trucking company, REAMS, which was named after his children. Even after "retiring" from his many business ventures, he went on to oversee construction of his dream homes, one in Yankee Lake and the other in Melbourne Beach, FL. He also couldn't resist helping his children with many projects around their houses. He enjoyed traveling with his wife to visit family across the United States, the dirt track races at the Orange County Speedway and watching a good NASCAR race on TV. In later years, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

He was a life member of Elks Lodge #1097 of Middletown and played for many years on their bowling league. He was never one to slow down until he physically couldn't go anymore.

Visitation hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, May 24 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Ave., Middletown, NY 10940. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home, entombment will follow in the family crypt in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Middletown.

The family would like to send their sincere thanks to his loving caregivers at Carnegie Gardens, Melbourne, FL. We can not thank you enough for caring for our husband and father as if he was your own.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Al's memory by donating to Joe's Club, c/o the Brevard Alzheimer's Foundation, 4676 N. Wickham Road, Melbourne, FL 32935.
