Alexandra Astras of Chester, died on Wednesday April 11 at Orange Regional Medical Center in Middletown, NY. She was 77.
The daughter of the late Zaharias and Hrysi Hatzithoma Mitsigiorge she was born on December 24, 1934 in Kos, Greece. She married Georgios Kostantinos Astras, who predeceased her on December 3, 2008.
Alexandra was a wonderful mother, grandmother, aunt and wife. She loved her family dearly and her grandchildren were very special to her. She took care of all of them at one point in her life. She enjoyed crocheting and cooking was a specialty of hers. The entire family loved her cooking. She missed her hometown of Kos, Greece but she kept the memories and traditions alive here. One of the happiest moments in her life was when she became a U.S. Citizen and passed the test with a 100%. She was a special woman and will be sadly missed by her entire family.
She is survived by her loving family, her sons, Konstantinos Astras and his wife Burdell, Zackary Astras and his wife Kerry, all of Thompsonville, Mario Astras and his wife Dina of Chester; sisters, Maria Martini and Evdokia Kiki Kasiotis; and her beloved grandchildren, Bryan, Alexandra K., Georgios, Alexandra H., Maria, Zackary, Alma, Georgina Astras and one great-granddaughter, Anastasia Astras.
In addition to her husband, Georgios, she was predeceased by her brothers, brothers, John, Manolis, Theodoros, and Nikolas Mitsigiorge
Visitation hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm on Monday, April 16, 2012 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Funeral Service will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, April 17 at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church, 2250 Goshen Turnpike, Middletown, NY 10941. Fr. Chris Talleos will officiate. Burial will follow in the family plot in Wallkill Cemetery, 160 Midway Road, Middletown, NY 10940.
