July 30, 1940 - March 3, 2013

Callicoon, NY

Albert J. Thorne of Callicoon, NY, died Sunday, March 3, 2013 at Orange Regional Medical Center.

He was born in Copiague to the late Gladys and Albert Thorne, Sr. on July 30, 1940.He fulfilled his childhood dream by enlisting in the United States Navy in 1966. He married the love of his life, Doris Tesseyman, and together they lived happily until her death in 2000. A hard worker, he was head Custodianat the Chase School  until he retired in 1999. He was beloved by the students there, and was humbled when they dedicated their year book to him for his faithful years of service. He spent nearly 30 years delivering copies of this newspaper to his customers, and they always knew they could depend on him to have their newspaper at the door bright and early each morning. Al was a kind and generous man who would go out of his way for others. He will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his two loving daughters: Deborah Everly and her husband, Peter of Fort Smith, AR, and Penny Lynch(Clinton Brown) of Port Jervis, and his beloved grandchildren: Dustin, Drew, and Tyler Lynch, Kevin and Elise Everly, and Ashley Schleimer, and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation hours are Thursday, March 7th, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.at the Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Ave., Middletown, NY 10940. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, March 8th, at Our Lady of Mt Carmel RC Church with Fr. Pat McGuigan officiating. Burial will follow with Military Honors at Callicoon Cemetery, Callicoon NY.In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Ray W. Moody Breast Center, 75 Crystal Run Rd., Middletown, NY 10940. Funeral arrangements under the direction of Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home
