Obituary for Adrienne M. Butvinik
ADRIENNE BUTVINIK
February 11, 1952 - May 16, 2018
Otisville, NY
Adrienne Butvinik, beloved mother, daughter, sister, educator, artist, and friend to all, passed away suddenly on May 18, 2018 at Orange Regional Medical Center following an injury at home.
Adrienne is survived by her daughters, Pauline and Josephine La Bella; her mother, Roslyn Butvinik; her brother Alan, his wife, Tziona, and their children. Adrienne was predeceased by her father, David. Adrienne leaves behind a multitude of adoring friends locally and nationally.
Born in Jersey City, New Jersey on February 11, 1952, Adrienne began a life of love, creativity, and infectious joy. After graduating from Bayonne High School in 1969, she started her college education at Bridgeport University, transferring to Jersey City State College and graduating with a Bachelor’s in Fine Arts in 1973. Adrienne later earned her Master’s in Fine Arts in ceramics from SUNY New Paltz.
Settling in New York, she began her over 30 year career as an educator for Minisink Valley School District. Here she became an agent of radical love and change for countless students. At Minisink Adrienne was known for her outrageous personality, raucous sense of humor and unique fashion sense. No one could forget her art club talent show performances and classroom serenades.
Adrienne was a compassionate and caring mentor, forming the Gay Straight Alliance at Minisink Valley High School and chaperoning countless trips overseas to broaden young minds. Her retirement brought a period of unsurpassed creativity and activism. Many knew her from her Catmaid Wearable Art, a focal part of BLISS co-op in Sugar Loaf, NY. She chose the moniker Catmaid due to her love and concern for animal rights. Adrienne was also a founding member of Hometown Helpers in Otisville. She took great happiness in supporting community.
Once you met Adrienne she stole a piece of your heart and kept it forever. She was a person of tremendous passion and endless love. She encouraged everyone to see the beauty around them, never realizing all the beauty she brought to the lives of others.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at 12:30 pm Temple Beth Shalom in Florida, New York with internment to follow at Riverside Cemetery in Saddle Brook, NJ.
